Teen SpiritAdolescence and contemporary art
- Exhibition
Teen Spirit takes a look at adolescence through a collective exhibition of more than 30 artists and 90 works distributed throughout the BPS22. The selection targets less commonly used media to address this subject, which has almost exclusively been targeted using photography, until now. The title is inspired by Nirvana’s single, Smells Like Teen Spirit, released in 1991 and which became the hymn of a disenfranchised generation marked by social decline and globalisation.
Adolescence is difficult to define. In certain societies, this period between childhood and adulthood simply does not exist; for some people it is a myth. Furthermore, what is covered by adolescence varies according to the era and cannot be limited to a psychophysiological phenomenon. This is why this exhibition aims to look at adolescence both here and elsewhere, without caricaturing it, and seeking to bear witness to its complexity, taking into account the social setting.
Teen Spirit thus aims to explore adolescent aspirations, preoccupations, languages and behaviours in different contexts and from different artistic perspectives.
