ONE SHOT!FOOTBALL AND CONTEMPORARY ART

  • Exhibition
06.03.2010-11.07.2010

Instead of limiting itself to current sporting events such as the World Cup, One Shot! examined the different facets of this popular sport in connection with multiple aspects of contemporary art. The exhibition also highlighted the relationship between current artists and the universe of football, a sport which now enjoys attention from many different quarters.
Approximately fifty pieces by artists from across the world were brought together at the BPS22. This included sculptures, paintings, photographs, comics, drawings, videos and more. Among the themes explored were: the ritual aspect of supporter behaviour, the link between politics and football, the violence of 'ultras' fans, the fun and social aspect of this sport, its emotional connection to memories and childhood, media celebration at certain stages of the game, financial corruption, popular traditions, the financial investment of big brands and the conditions in merchandise manufacture, and gender stereotyping.
