Subjective Geography

News

Within the framework of Asphalte#1, the BPS22 invited psychologist and documentary artist Catherine Jourdan and her team to complete Charleroi's subjective map. The objective: think of the city, work on its image, the image of the inhabitants on their own city, the image of the fictional, felt, every day city.

In June and July 2014, groups of adults and young people from various horizons told, dreamt and drew the map of their city. Starting with a blank sheet, the Charleroi dwellers evoked their neighbourhood. At the end of two weeks training, a subjective map was created, using the codes of the official cartography. It tells their vision of Charleroi. It tells and imagines a way of living together on one same territory.

Map available in pocket size and sold at the BPS22 for €2.
