Artist in residence : David Schalliol
David Schalliol is at the BPS22 as part of a residency. Centred around Charleroi's landscape and the traces of industrialisation, his residency will take place in several times in order to observe the territory in different contexts, at different seasons.
David Schalliol, a professor of sociology at an American university, had already come to Europe, thanks to an invitation from the Centre Régional de la Photographie Hauts-de-France. It was an opportunity for him to discover part of his own history, since before migrating to the United States, his family worked in the mines of northern France and Belgium.
His work, at the intersection of documentary and social landscape photography, presents the cohabitation, sometimes amusing, sometimes worrying, of the countryside, the city and industry.
