CANCELED - Pierre MichonPhilosophy tasters #4

CANCELED

This season, Maud Hagelstein, art philosopher and researcher at FNRS/ULiège, brings you on a journey through literature to search for stories about art.

In “Masters and Servants”, writer Pierre Michon takes up an anecdote told by Vasari about the painter Lorentino, a forgotten disciple of the famous Piero della Francesca, and distorts it. A second-class painter living in poverty and forced to accept any orders - far too few - from the town dignitaries, he even agreed to paint a portrait in exchange for a pig (a small pig weighing ten pounds). This realist story allows us to think about the relationships of power that have always invigorated the artistic world, the infamy that surrounds certain artists, and the inequality of painters with regards to glory.
