Since the 19th century, artists such as Constantin Meunier, Pierre Paulus, and others have devoted themselves almost exclusively to depicting industrial work and the condition of workers. During this conference, we will study this kind of representation (emergence, artists, aesthetic, etc.) and to place it within modern art. But what about artists today? How do they deal with this subject? How are they reacting to changes in the idea of work? The Province de Hainaut collection boasts a number of works on this theme and will be a central element for this conference.
With Alice Mathieu, art historian.
